In Loving Memory of Obianuju (1st May 1973 – 14th April 1988)
A short life, full of grace and purpose.

Obianuju was born on 1st May 1973. From childhood, her growth was extraordinary; everything about her was fast, purposeful, and radiant. She possessed an adult sense of understanding even as a child, and her brilliance stood out in all she did. Academically gifted, she moved from Primary 5 directly into secondary school, always excelling with ease and discipline.

Spiritually, she was exceptional. She received her First Holy Communion at the age of seven and her Confirmation at eight, because of her uncommon maturity. Deeply devoted, she not only guided her younger siblings in their faith but also extended her care to neighbouring children: gathering them, teaching them Catechism, and leading them to classes. Her love for God and the Church was evident, and she longed to become a Reverend Sister. She was advised to complete her secondary education first before making that final decision, just as was done with Rev. Sr. Angela, to whom she later seemed to hand over her spiritual mission.

Obianuju’s character was as remarkable as her faith. She was intelligent, disciplined, courageous, and deeply compassionate. She lived with purpose, always eager to do good, quick to correct with love, and ever protective of her siblings, especially her immediate brother, Bernard. Though brave, she was tender-hearted; she would cry at the sight of blood or anyone’s pain. Once, when she suffered from appendicitis, she refused surgery and was miraculously healed by God. She was spiritually discerning, often the first to sense danger or recognize deceit, shielding her family from harm. Her presence brought warmth, order, and joy, shaping character and inspiring everyone around her to choose what was right and godly.

As her life drew to a close, her union with God grew deeper. She maintained her devotion and purity, guarding her heart carefully as though she already knew her mission was short. When her final illness came, she faced it with serenity and grace. On that fateful evening, after receiving the Sacraments and Viaticum from the Cathedral Administrator who rushed to her bedside, she revealed that she had seen the Holy Family. Radiant with joy, she announced that she was “going home.” She lovingly bid farewell to her parents, each of her siblings, and even relatives who were absent, astonishing everyone with her calm and awareness.

In the early hours of 14th April 1988, Obianuju departed this world peacefully, lying like a smiling angel. Her death, though sudden and mysterious, was full of divine beauty. She had tried to stay for the love of her parents but answered instead the higher call to eternity. To this day, her family remembers her as their guardian angel: a bright, pure soul whose influence continues to guide, protect, and intercede from heaven.

She lived fast, loved deeply, and left beautifully — smiling her way into God’s presence.
